It all starts with a plan, which, like many of our undertakings, this was mostly conceived as a vision. There were no formal drawings to work from, so we created something on paper to demonstrate how the water would drain and the general layout of the needed stairs and concrete retaining wall, and then began construction.
Basic Concrete Plans
The backyard was a gravel pit, uninviting as a place to unwind and enjoy the summer. Because grass would not grow and only a few plants would survive, we reasoned that a large patio surrounded by concrete planters would be low maintenance and useful while also creating a very welcome space for the residents and guests.
We selected a light wash architectural concrete treatment for the retaining walls and borders and multi-color stamped concrete for the inside areas, a total of seven colours. You can see in detail how we developed the multi-colored, custom-cut, and grouted stamp concrete in a separate stamp concrete study. Consult the page on stamped concrete and how that is customised.
Different views are combined together to demonstrate the yard’s huge improvement from various angles and viewpoints.
This view from the south-east corner shows just how much has changed. Concrete patio water flows to a portion of washed rock at the bottom of the patio.
There are a lot of retaining walls that are at a good height, quality, and thickness for people to sit comfortably around the perimeter and interact comfortably. For 1500 square feet of planters, there are 120 feet of concrete retaining wall.
Small Excavation Services
The tiny gate was used to remove seven dump truck loads of dirt from this property. To make these tasks more efficient, we have a number of different-sized machines available. to us.
In spite of the 54,000 pounds of concrete in this yard, it’s quite private and inviting because of the trees and plants that surround the area.
Separate from the stamped concrete flatwork, the concrete steps were poured separately to emphasise the risers. The risers are softly washed and include an overhang to provide the illusion of floating; these steps are fairly contemporary and are particularly sought after by homeowners looking for a modern stair riser design.
Seven different colours were trowled into the surface to simulate genuine random stone. Much of nature’s rock is multi-coloured, and our customer requested a look similar to natural stone with a full range of colours to make the stamped concrete visually attractive and unique.
Each stamped concrete patio we make is unique, and colours may be customised to the customer’s specifications, ranging from a single shade to a spectrum of colours; the possibilities are really endless.
One Month Project
Side yard and back patio are linked by a stamped concrete walkway that is laid out every ten feet to complement the main stamped areas. Starting from nothing and finishing in only four weeks, this back yard patio renovation turned out to be a stunning success story.
